Ooops

Phu Quoc es una isla tropical... y casi paradisíaca. Casi porque cuando crees que estas en el paraíso, giras una esquina y te acuerdas que estas en Asia, donde los plásticos y la basura en general colonizan los suelos de las ciudades, las montañas y muchas playas. ¿De quien es la culpa? No hay que responsabilizar sólo a los pobres pescadores que nunca han tenido la oportunidad de aprender que eso está mal. Quizá los grandes negocios turísticos (y el gobierno local) deberían poner más interés en solucionar el problema: financiar a estos pueblos para que dispongan de formas eficaces de recolección/ disposición de basura y educación de la gente local. ¿Pero cómo les van a educar? Ellos mismos tienen ni idea sobre actitudes sostenibles con el medio ambiente. Para ellos es más fácil construir hoteles de diez plantas todos en la misma zona y limitarse a mantener "limpio" su pequeño trozo de playa... Que triste.

Phu Quoc is a tropical island.... and almost a paradise island. We say almost because just when you thing you're in paradise, you turn the wrong corner and suddenly remember you're still in Asia, where plastics and garbage in general fill the cities, the mountains and the beaches. Whose fault is it? We can't just blame the poor fishermen that never knew how to do better. Nobody taught them. It should be the "fat fish" in the tourist business, and the local governement. They should be helping these people get new and efficient ways of garbage disposal and should be helping them to learn about being environmentaly friendly. But how can they? They are not environmentaly friendly themselves!! They rather build 10 storey hotels all in the same area and strain themselves as little as possible "cleaning" the small strech of sand that belongs just to them... Sad.
